The European Payments Council (EPC) is looking for a Technical Product Manager to design and manage EPC schemes’ technical standards (Implementation Guidelines, IGs) based on the ISO 20022 messaging protocol.

WHAT IS THE EPC:

The European Payments Council (EPC) is a financial sector association responsible for the standardisation of electronic payments in Europe. Our mission is to promote European payments harmonisation and integration through the design and management of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) schemes such as SEPA Credit Transfer (SCT), SEPA Instant Credit Transfer (SCT Inst), SEPA Direct Debit (SDD), SEPA Request-to-Pay (SRTP), Payments Account Access (SPAA), One-Leg Out Instant Credit Transfer (OCT Inst) etc.

The EPC Secretariat provides strong digital payments’ domain expertise, management and administration support for all EPC’s activities. It consists of a small and dynamic team within an agile organisation, coordinating the activities of payments experts from 36 European countries organized in thematic working groups.

Further information about the EPC can be found on our website: www.epc-cep.eu.

WHAT THE EPC OFFERS:

  • A work experience with a relevant, measurable impact on the way millions of citizens and enterprises access and use payment services every day, contributing to a thriving European economy;

  • A challenging job in a highly international environment with top reputation in the electronic payments sector;

  • The advantages of working in a small team with a flat, agile organization, interacting and coordinating with the most comprehensive network of European and global experts in electronic payments;

  • A competitive compensation package.

WHOM DO WE LOOK FOR:

The Technical Product Manager should have strong functional- and technical-level competences in ISO 20022 account-to-account payment standards such as SEPA Credit Transfer, SEPA Credit Transfer Instant, and SEPA Direct Debit. A good understanding of payment-related processes is required as the successful candidate is expected to become a domain expert on the EPC’s activities and standards.

Knowledge of open banking, international cross border payments and card payments is a plus. In this position you are requested to design functional rulebook specifications in close coordination with other EPC Product Managers, and to translate them into ISO 20022 technical specifications and implementation guidelines. Therefore, extensive knowledge of ISO 20022 XML standard and related working tools is essential.

A good functional and technical-level knowledge of relevant payment APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) standards, e.g. Berlin Group and STET, is considered a strong plus.

You will also be regularly in touch with Payment Service Providers (PSPs i.e. Banks, E-Money and Payment Institutions) and non-PSP stakeholders at European level to understand their evolving needs in the schemes, and follow market and regulatory developments that could impact the payment schemes.

A successful candidate must demonstrate good analytical, organisational and communication skills (both written and spoken) and be able to work independently, with minimal supervision by EPC management.

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE SUMMARY:

  • 7+ years’ professional experience in electronic payments;

  • Proven working knowledge of the ISO 20022 messaging standard and its application in the payments industry;

  • Experience in creating and maintaining implementation guidelines e.g., Swift MyStandards, GEFEG.FX or equivalent software tools;

  • (plus) knowledge of open banking and related API standards, card payments, international cross-border payments;

  • Good project management capabilities;

  • Team player;

  • Sense of initiative and self-starter;

  • Strong analytical skills, a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;

  • Bachelor’s degree (M. Sc. or MBA are a plus);

  • Fluent English, written and spoken (minimum Cambridge level C1 or equivalent).

The working language of the EPC is English, therefore fluency in English (both spoken and written) is a key prerequisite for the position.

A work permit in Belgium is a mandatory prerequisite for the position.

The job requires physical presence at the EPC offices in Brussels on average 2 or 3 times per week, therefore the position is not suitable for a remote job.
