ABOUT EURO HEALTH NET:

EuroHealthNet is the European Partnership for health, equity and wellbeing. It consists of over 80 bodies from European countries responsible for public health and health promotion in Europe. From our office in Brussels, we coordinate policy, advocacy, research, and capacity building activities which help address health inequalities and positively affect the determinants of health.

There are currently 23 highly skilled colleagues in the office plus rotating internships, all of whom contribute to an active, diverse, and dynamic work environment.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

EuroHealthNet’s activities take place across three complementary Platforms covering Policy, Practice, and Research. A core management and administration team unifies and builds connections between the Platforms. Within the core team, communications activities amplify the messages and expertise of the EuroHealthNet Partnership.

In addition, EuroHealthNet hosts the Brussels hub of the Centre for Global Health Inequalities Research (CHAIN). CHAIN’s mission is to create a global transformation in actionable health inequalities research. Bringing together leading scholars and international organisations and acting as a change agent, it aims to monitor, explain, and reduce health inequalities.

CHAIN was officially launched in 2017 at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) which closely cooperated with EuroHealthNet in the past years. The newly established CHAIN Brussels hub at EuroHealthNet, led by Dr. Mirza Balaj, aims to continue and expand CHAIN’s previous work, offering excellent research and evidence-based approaches on health inequalities for policies and practices at the heart of Europe’s capital.

For CHAIN’s Brussels hub at EuroHealthNet, we are seeking a highly motivated senior researcher with a strong interest in studying health and social determinants among vulnerable groups. The researcher will specifically work on a project on ‘Cancer-related data collection in vulnerable populations’ under a framework contract with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission. The overall purpose of this project is to collect and analyse data on cancer prevention as well as access to healthcare, and particularly cancer care, among people experiencing homelessness and Roma in different EU and candidate countries. This will be done by designing, piloting and rolling out a survey for systematic data collection in these populations, in combination with data extraction activities based on the European Social Survey.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful research with an international and interdisciplinary team, addressing inequalities in health services access and outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITY:

The successful candidate will:

  • Design and implement surveys targeting hard-to-reach groups;

  • Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to ensure the quality and relevance of research activities;

  • Draft research reports, papers, and other outputs;

  • Coordinate project activities and timelines in alignment with organisational goals.

PROFILE:

  • A PhD and at least one year of postdoctoral research experience;

  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience working with hard-to-reach groups preferably with populations experiencing homelessness or Roma communities;

  • Experience in administering surveys, including developing questionnaires and managing data collection;

  • Proven interest in the health and wellbeing of marginalised groups, as evidenced by prior research, publications, or professional engagement;

  • Excellent drafting and coordination skills to effectively contribute to research outputs and manage collaborations.

PRACTICALITIES:

This position is offered according to Belgian national legislation. It is an offer for a full-time position of 38 hours per week with a fixed-term contract of two years. For this position, the annual gross salary ranges between €52.200 and €68.000 depending on experience and qualifications, and will also include benefits such as meal vouchers, financial support towards the use of public transport to work, and hospital insurance.

All applicants must be qualified, eligible, and able to work in Belgium. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide financial assistance to relocate to Brussels or Belgium.

The post will combine in-office and remote work, as well as occasional travel within Europe – depending on health security regulation. The successful candidate will be supplied with necessary materials to work remotely, as required (e.g., laptop).

WE VALUE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVITY:

Diversity is a core value of EuroHealthNet. We are passionate about building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment. Every member of our team enriches our diversity by exposing us to ways to understand and engage with the world, identify challenges, and to design and deliver solutions. We offer a flexible working environment, in line with our gender, diversity, and inclusion strategy, and reasonable accommodation will be made for people who identify as living with a disability.

This is an important post for us. Please do not hesitate to apply, also if you do not fulfill all selection criteria.

APPLICATIONS:

Applicants should send an email to Chris Russ, Operations Assistant (c.russ@eurohealthnet.eu), with the following subject line: “Senior Research Coordinator”.
