E3G is recruiting a Senior Policy Advisor to advance our work around UNFCCC and climate diplomacy. This is an exciting time to join E3G and build the next generation of climate diplomacy and engagement for the organization that will be critical in spurring action and impact. The Senior Policy Advisor role will be based in one of E3G's offices in either London, Brussels, Berlin or Washington DC.

CONTEXT:

Staying within the Paris 1.5C temperature goal requires the complete transformation of the global economy in three decades to reach net zero CO2 emissions and ensure resilience against the worsening climate impacts. This transition is the most ambitious project humanity has ever attempted, and its success will require fundamental changes to international regimes and to how countries work together. Effective climate action requires significant international cooperation, including a strong United Nations climate treaty and international regimes covering trade, finance, security and international development that are fit for purpose in a world impacted by climate change. 2025 is the first “official” ambition moment of the Paris Agreement where all countries must set targets for 2035. Ambition set in 2025 will determine whether 1.5C/well below 2C is still within reach and the credibility of the overall Paris regime in managing climate risks and delivering the global “social contract” on climate. This is taking place against heightened geopolitical uncertainty, a record year of global elections that impact climate efforts and foreign policy, and a view that the international climate agenda is at a critical inflection point. The role of the UNFCCC process and multilateral processes and approaches in this context is critical.

BACKGROUND:

E3G is a world leading strategy think tank on the political economy of climate change with a global outlook. We work on the frontier of the climate landscape tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate for all. Our goal is to translate climate politics, economics and policies into action. We pride ourselves on bringing independence to an extremely polarised discussion and holding policy makers to account on their promises. E3G’s diplomatic work extends across the whole climate regime, including the UN negotiations and cooperation on the energy transition, financial reform and increasing resilience. E3G particularly focuses on understanding and influencing the connections between climate politics and global agendas in foreign, security and economic policy. E3G is consistently ranked as one of the top-ten most influential environmental think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania’s Global Go To Think Tank Index. E3G offers a dynamic and fast paced working environment that will value your insight, initiative and collaboration wherever you are in the organisation.
