ABOUT THE MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION:

MPA is the leading advocate of the film, television, and streaming industry around the world. The EMEA office, based in Brussels, represents the interests of the motion picture, television, and streaming industry in an incredibly diverse regional market. Our key activities include work on legislative and regulatory issues throughout the region, development and implementation of content protection strategies, and collaboration with other right holder groups to promote intellectual property rights and the interests of the audiovisual sector. Department: MPA Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

General Purpose: The Senior Manager, Government Affairs, EMEA, will represent the Motion Picture Association in diverse policy matters, including audiovisual and copyright policy, in the region comprising Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The broad objectives of this work will be to support MPA members by promoting actions and policies that respect and sustain creativity and contribute to the success of the audiovisual sector.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Policy Analysis 

Analyse policy and legal developments. Follow national level proposals in EMEA, including implementation at Member State level of key EU legal instruments. Manage reporting on national policy developments. Design strategies to accomplish MPA member objectives.

Advocacy

The Senior Manager, Government Affairs, EMEA, will be directly active in advocacy and outreach, with a focus on the national level in the EMEA region. Together with the team, he or she will work to shape and advise on national policy, proposals and legislation in the countries of the EMEA region, in particular on audiovisual, digital and consumer regulation, copyright and AI. The work will entail frequent engagement with decision-makers and local stakeholders in EMEA, in coordination with the policy, legal and comms teams.

Relationship/Coalition Building

Working together with the rest of the MPA EMEA Policy Team, the Senior Manager, Government Affairs, EMEA, will represent the MPA as a partner in the broader EMEA policy community, and will work within, strengthen and build coalitions and collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Teamwork

The Senior Manager, Government Affairs, EMEA, will:

  • Work collaboratively as part of a team of policy and government affairs professionals as well as outside consultants, and other independent contractors;

  • Represent and advocate for MPA values and maintain continuity of contact with members and colleagues by documenting and communicating actions, highlighting issues and contributing to the broader work of the organisation;

  • Maintain regular and effective contact with, and communicate complex information succinctly and clearly to, multiple stakeholders, particularly local and global MPA member representatives and key allies.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • The MPA is looking for a self-starter with a very collaborative mindset and who excels at team work. Integrity, good communication skills and a sense of humour are essential;

  • Advanced degree in public policy, law or a related field;

  • Fluency in English plus at least one other language;

  • At least five years of experience within the EMEA policy landscape, preferably with policy issues in the areas of media regulation and/or copyright;

  • Preferably experience working in the media/entertainment industries.


Based in Brussels. Frequent travel within EMEA.

Reporting Relationships and compensation: This position reports directly to the Vice President, Head of Policy, EMEA, who leads the MPA EMEA policy team. Salary is competitive and will be dependent on qualifications.
