The Pooled fund on International Energy (PIE) is an international grant making and strategy platform with a mission to secure a safe climate, clean air and prosperity through encouraging a just transition in the power and steel sectors.

We work with charitable foundations and regional climate foundations to support a diverse set of research institutions, think tanks and civil society organisations working with governments, business and other parts of society all over the world. We aim to back local organisations and international partners to overcome the barriers to clean energy and steel.

PIE was formed in 2013 and is hosted at the European Climate Foundation (ECF). PIE is comprised of a small and dedicated international team of exceptional people based around the world. More at


The Senior Communications Associate will ensure our funders and external stakeholders have high-quality, timely, and relevant information to feel informed about PIE’s work and cause. We have a niche audience with a very high influence and so this role has the ability to contribute greatly to the drive for climate and clean energy action. This person will take our best-in class global clean energy strategies, news and developments and turn them into high-quality value-add communications strategies and materials. This newly-created role sits within PIE’s Operations Team and reports to the Director of Operations.


  • Gather relevant input, create, and send regular and high quality reports to funders on time;

  • Create engaging content (ie presentations, infographics, videos, podcasts) to keep the PIE Steering Committee and network updated on PIE strategies;

  • Establish processes and tools/systems to improve and professionalize the way PIE creates and shares content;

  • Organize workshops, webinars, and conferences to foster dialogue and knowledge sharing;

  • Manage editing and publishing of PIE’s annual international energy review.

  • Synthesizer: Can quickly grasp complex topics from clean energy strategists and turn that into easy-to-understand and compelling content; able to liaise and negotiate conversations with a wide range of stakeholders across philanthropy, government, intergovernmental organizations, consulting, NGOs, the private sector and more.


  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in communications, journalism, sub-editing, broadcasting, content development, or similar;

  • Familiarity with the global energy sector;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus);

  • Proficiency in multiple forms of communications and tools (ie Adobe illustrator/InDesign) to create professional written, visual, audio and simple video materials;

  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and content management systems;

  • A passion for climate action and a commitment to PIE’s mission.
