ABOUT THE ROLE:
We’re looking for a proactive and strategic Senior Category Buyer to join our regional procurement team, focused on Transport & Logistics (VLC) Leuven, Belgium. In this role, you’ll lead strategic sourcing initiatives, manage supplier relationships, and drive cost and service improvements through smart procurement decisions. You’ll also support spot buying activities and ensure that contracts are delivering optimal value.

We’re looking for a proactive and strategic Senior Category Buyer to join our regional procurement team, focused on Transport & Logistics (VLC) Leuven, Belgium. In this role, you’ll lead strategic sourcing initiatives, manage supplier relationships, and drive cost and service improvements through smart procurement decisions. You’ll also support spot buying activities and ensure that contracts are delivering optimal value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Develop and execute category strategy and risk mitigation plans;
- Lead strategic and tactical sourcing activities;
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships;
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and added value through negotiations and innovation.
Spot Buying & Operational Support
- Identify appropriate suppliers for ad-hoc or urgent needs;
- Manage spot-buy processes using SAP, Ariba, and TMS systems;
- Conduct RFQs and e-auctions, analyse bids, negotiate and select suppliers;
- Support purchase order creation and manage catalogue updates.
Contract Management
- Lead contract negotiations and implementation;
- Ensure timely renewals and resolve contract or PO issues;
- Consolidate contracts locally and across countries where possible.
Continuous Improvement
- Promote automation and data-driven procurement;
- Enhance spend visibility and supplier compliance;
- Ensure transparency and consistency in sourcing practices;
- Identify risks and support the development of mitigation strategies.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential
- University degree (or equivalent experience);
- Strong analytical skills with a strategic mindset;
- Hands-on experience in procurement or category management;
- Basic understanding of finance and accounting principles;
- Strong communication skills in English – clear, collaborative, and confident;
- Ability to build trusted relationships across multiple teams and levels;
- Comfortable using data to inform decisions and drive value.
Desirable
- 1+ years of relevant procurement experience within supply chain, purchasing, or finance;
- Working knowledge of tools like Ariba, SAP MM/SRM, TMS, advanced Excel or SQL-based systems;
- Experience with e-sourcing tools is a plus.
