Founded in Brussels in 1983, CEPS (Centre for European Policy Studies) is a leading think tank and forum for debate on EU affairs, which has been consistently ranked among the world’s top 10 best think tanks. CEPS’ distinguishing features include its strong in-house research capacity and an extensive international network of partner institutes. CEPS’ funding comes from a variety of sources, mainly research grants and, public procurement, but also from membership and conference fees.
Within CEPS, the Economic Policy Unit conducts research on the Economic and Monetary Union, EU macroeconomic policies, European economic governance, the EU budget, and other EU funding instruments. Collaborating closely with other teams, our researchers come from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, blending expertise in macroeconomics, political science, and labour economics. In recent years, the Unit has been highly active in integrating policy advisory work for EU institutions with forward-thinking academic research on EU public finances, notably focusing on the EU budget, NextGenerationEU and other EU funding instruments.
CEPS is currently seeking an expert in policy evaluation methodologies applied to EU public finances and related socio-economic policies.

possibility to telework in Belgium + 20 days per calendar year of teleworking from abroad).
We would like the preferred candidate to start in April 2025. The job will be based in Brussels.

You will become part of the Economic Policy Unit and you will:
- Contribute to research projects related to the EU budget, the Recovery and Resilience Facility, and other EU funding instrument as well as the EU’s economic governance;
- Assist in acquiring new research projects;
- Participate in international research teams that carry out projects for the European Commission and other funding organisations;
- Contribute to the writing of reports, studies, academic papers and policy pieces;
- Deliver presentations in your area(s) of expertise at project meetings and external events.
YOUR BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- You hold a Master’s degree in economics or a related field, with a minimum of three years of professional experience in applied relevant work;
- A PhD degree on related fields of research would be an asset;
- You have a proven record of writing and presentation skills, and can critically read and comment on academic and policy publications in the relevant fields;
- You have experience in writing proposals for funding from European institutions, foundations and other donors;
- Knowledge of the European Commission Better Regulation Guidelines and Toolbox (impact assessments, policy evaluations, cost-benefit analysis etc.) is a plus;
- Experience in conducting quantitative analysis, including econometric analysis, is a plus;
- Experience in coordinating externally funded research projects with an international team is a plus;
- You have an excellent command of English, both orally and in writing; knowledge of other EU official languages is a plus;
- You are willing to contribute to events hosted by CEPS and its partners.
