The European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment (FEDARENE) is a leading European network. We facilitate the development of interregional partnerships and projects, promote the regional dimension in debates on sustainable energy and the environment, and help regions develop their capacity to take action for the energy transition. FEDARENE is involved in many EU-funded projects and initiatives, among which the Covenant of Mayors. The EU Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy is an initiative supported by the European Commission bringing together thousands of local governments that want to secure a better future for their citizens. By joining the initiative, they voluntarily commit to implementing EU climate and energy objectives. From the beginning, the Covenant of Mayors initiative has been designed to provide local governments, in highly diversified national contexts, with a framework for their local energy and climate action. FEDARENE has been involved in the operation of the Covenant of Mayors Office since the beginning.


You will mainly be involved in FEDARENE’s activities contributing to the operation of the Covenant of Mayors Office, notably on capacity building, events strategy, and supporting signatory cities in their journey.

You will also be involved in the roll-out of FEDARENE’s services to its members as well as be involved in the implementation of  EU-funded projects..

The position offered requires a vast array of skills from database management, events organisation, helpdesk management, diplomatic skills,.. but will allow you to have a strategic role in a prominent EU initiative.

Tasks include (but are not limited to)

  • Organise events and workshops from start to end and support the organisation of high-level events;

  • Support the management of the extensive databases and platforms;

  • Provide timely and quality answers and feedback to stakeholders via the Helpdesk services coordinated by FEDARENE;

  • Support the overall coordination efforts of events, capacity-building activities;

  • Draft deliverables and ensure efficient and on-time delivery of all outputs.


Master’s degree in a relevant field

At least 4 years of experience in a similar role. What we will evaluate positively is experience in the following areas:

  • Implementation of EU-funded projects or initiatives (Horizon Europe, Interreg, LIFE…);

  • Supporting local and/or regional authorities in their energy/climate transition;

  • Event organisation (multiple event formats);

  • Helpdesk officer or in a similar role;

  • Database management;

  • Organisation and delivery of peer to peer programmes for public officials;

  • Previous experience in actions connected to the Covenant of Mayors is considered a plus.


Required skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office package, especially MS Excel and MS Teams;

  • Ability to deeply understand technical issues and to translate them for a broader public understanding;

  • Strong communication and analytical skills;

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment;

  • Fluency in spoken and written English at a C1 minimum level;

  • Basic knowledge of EU policies on climate and energy;

  • Ability to interact with high-ranking officials;

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail;

  • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines;

  • Knowledge of other EU languages (C1) is considered an asset;

  • Good IT skills.


  • Full-time employment in our office in Brussels, Belgium (contract under the Belgian Law). Initial contract of 12 months. Please note that only candidates with the right to work in the EU will be considered;

  • Teleworking is possible several days a week but you will be required to come to the office weekly. Full remote working is not possible;
