The Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Sciences has up to two fulltime vacancies: Full-time (100%) postdoctoral research scholarship in the field of Algebraic Geometry.

POSITION:

  • You will carry out high-quality academic research in algebraic geometry and/or related areas. The position is part of an FWO founded project entitled “New birational invariants and the geometry of moduli spaces”;

  • You will report on the results of your research and produce academic publications;

  • You will take part in the organisation of research events and activities;

  • You will contribute to the development of the research group;

  • There are no a priori teaching obligations with the position, yet the flexible expectation is that you help as a TA or instructor with one course per year (=2 hour/week one semester per year);

  • You will have the opportunity (if you want) to teach your own course and/or supervise bachelor and master thesis.


PROFILE:

  • You hold a PhD in Mathematics or equivalent by the time of the start of your appointment;

  • You have relevant research expertise in Algebraic Geometry or related areas;

  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies;

  • A working proficiency in English is necessary. Proficiency in Dutch is not required;

  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation;

  • You are able to carry out your work and achieve your objectives with a high degree of independence;

  • You are motivated to work actively on your further professional development. In this, you can make use of a wide range of training courses and professionalisation opportunities.


WHAT WE OFFER:

  • We offer an appointment as a postdoctoral scholarship holder for a period of three years;

  • Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale for a postdoctoral scholarship holder;

  • You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting;

  • The planned start date is flexible, but not sooner than 1 November 2024;

  • You will do most of your work at Campus Middelheim in a dynamic and stimulating working environment;
