ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL CLIMATE POLITICS HUB (ICPH): 

The ICPH brings together a global network of actors to catalyse climate action, especially of national governments in the context of the implementation of the Paris Agreement, working in cooperation with partners to ensure that opportunity – directly or indirectly related to climate – leads to strong climate plans and collaboration. The ICPH is managed and supported by a Secretariat team housed in, and forming part of, the European Climate Foundation’s International Portfolio. The ICPH Secretariat helps guide and manage the strategy, activities, and impact of its global network, as well as delivering the regranting strategy that supports many of the Hub’s activities and experts.   

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The ICPH is seeking a Political Strategy and Diplomatic Writer to contribute to the production of briefings, products, and strategy documents. The Political Strategy and Diplomatic Writer will work with the ICPHSecretariat and members of the global network to analyse and synthesise information and diplomatic intelligence, creating strategic narratives and diplomatic guidance to enable interventions at the national and international level that can raise climate action and ambition. This could include briefings on key events, international processes (UN, Climate Action Summits), rapid responses, elections, domestic opportunities, informational products, or action strategies in priority countries, as well as internal strategic documents. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities of the Political Strategy and Diplomatic Writer include: 

  • Work in good understanding, and in a collaborative way, with a variety of experts to co-author documents, based on different perspectives and information.Experts include members of civil society organisations (e.g. think tanksand NGOs)as well as policy makers working at international, country and/or subnational levels;

  • Collate and synthesise intelligence into meaningful analysis, identify a range of appropriate and effective tactical interventions to secure core political outcomes;

  • Communicate analysis to a variety of audiences, including e.g.government representatives, and key decision and change makers from civil society organizations and businesses, and through a variety of different products (actionable briefings, internal strategy documents, rapid response and on-demand briefings for influential members);

  • Contribute to the development of strategies and political scenarios around key issues, moments, and events;

  • Oversee the entire briefing development process, from initial planning to publishing, ensuring all logistical aspects are efficiently managed.  


JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Experience and competencies  

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, readiness to engage positively, enthusiastically, diligently, patiently and efficiently with a variety of partners across cultures and regions;

  • Demonstrated experience as a copy editor, content writer, beingconfident in delivering high-quality English language products with attention to detail withinfast moving and complex environments, where rapid response or on-demand briefings may be needed on short notice. Experience in climate is a plus;

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to work flexibly, proactively and well under pressure, and be a creative problem-solver with acan-do attitude to achieve efficient, timely, high-quality results; 

  • A team-minded attitude, excellent coordination and cooperation skills to work harmoniously with a tight-knit and highly collaborative team; 

  • Availability to travel internationally and to work across time zones while maintaining a healthy work and life balance;

  • Strongunderstanding of SEO best practices and content optimization would be advantageous.
