JOB PROFILE:
EuroGOOS office is seeking an experienced, high-performing Policy Officer to support the EuroGOOS team in activities linked to the coordination of the European ocean observing and forecasting and working across a portfolio of projects related to ocean knowledge management, science policy support and ocean observation coordination.
The successful candidate will support the coordination of EuroGOOS Activities (Regional Operational Oceanographic systems (ROOS), Working Groups (WG), Task Teams (TT)) and existing and new projects in the EuroGOOS office portfolio matching her/his competencies across the ocean observations, operational oceanography, ocean policy and governance.

EuroGOOS offers to the successful candidate a full-time contract and an opportunity to work in an international and multicultural professional environment. The place of work is the EuroGOOS office in the Brussels European district with a teleworking option (up to three days per week).
Employment will be according to the Belgian law. Additional employment package will include a private hospitalisation insurance, luncheon vouchers and Brussels public transportation support. EuroGOOS offers a competitive salary based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. The role will involve travel.

The successful candidate will support the coordination of EuroGOOS Activities (Regional Operational Oceanographic systems (ROOS), Working Groups (WG), Task Teams (TT)) and existing and new projects in the EuroGOOS office portfolio matching her/his competencies across the ocean observations, operational oceanography, ocean policy and governance.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the coordination of EuroGOOS activities in the context of European operational oceanography, engaging and working with EuroGOOS Activity (ROOS, WG, TT) chairs and relevant stakeholders at national, regional, and pan-European levels;
- Support the implementation of the EuroGOOS 2030 Strategy, including the expansion in the areas of climate observing and supporting the partnership within and beyond European borders, inter alia, strengthen partnership with relevant major international initiatives and the Ocean Observing Systems, contribute to Atlantic and Arctic strategic roadmaps and foresight activities;
- Support the coordination and monitor of the implementation of the European Ocean Observing System (EOOS), in particular, the activities in the EOOS Framework Steering Group (organising meetings, writing reports and other relevant documents and supporting communication);
- Participate in and manage EC projects, keeping track of tasks and timely delivery of outputs EuroGOOS is leading or partnering with, organise project meetings when relevant, produce quality reports, and represent EuroGOOS at project meetings;
- Support the organisation of EuroGOOS meetings (e.g., workshops and webinars) and conferences, including organisation, document writing and reporting, and other activities as required.
COMPETENCIES:
Required
- Masters or PhD in oceanography or a related discipline;
- Familiarity with the European and global ocean observing landscape and stakeholders;
- Proven record in scientific or technical writing (including peer-reviewed publications);
- At least 6 years of experience in a relevant position, preferably in the marine science or oceanographic sector;
- Demonstrable track record in scientific project management and science policy advice;
- Ability to think strategically, identify problems and propose solutions, draft concise and clear documents and reports independently;
- Experience in successful stakeholder engagement;
- Fluent in spoken and written English, knowledge of French will be an advantage;
- Experience in delivering presentations at meetings and conferences.
Desirable
- Understanding of the marine policy landscape in Europe and globally;
- Experience in seagoing data collection or observing systems;
- Knowledge of oceanographic data or models or products for maritime users;
- Experience in communications and outreach.
