JOB DESCRIPTION:
The current vacancy is with Unit Strategy and Coordination of the Directorate for Strategy, Work Programme and Resources.
The mission of Unit is to coordinate the execution of the JRC strategy via the planning, adoption and monitoring of the JRC multiannual work programme. The Unit is also in charge of the strategic planning and programming cycle (SPP). The Unit coordinates relations with Commission services, including JRC's input to inter-service meetings and consultations, to reinforce the collaboration through the portfolios. The Unit acts as an interface between the JRC and the European Parliament, the European Council, the European External Action Service, the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.
The desk officer will manage the relationship with DG RTD and support the planning & implementation of the JRC work programme to ensure that the relevant parts of the JRC work programme meet the strategic priorities of DG RTD, the JRC and the Commission as a whole. The colleague will maximise the impact and visibility of JRC work on policy making in DG RTD.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for a dynamic self-motivated candidate with experience in developing or using evidence in policymaking and/or experience as policy analyst. It is desirable to have experience or knowledge of EU Research and Innovation programmes and activities. It is also desirable previous work in at least two different policy areas and/or in other horizontal or multidisciplinary position within the Commission (or in an equivalent organisation) providing a broad picture of EU activity.
Selected colleagues will have to learn essential elements of Commission Inter-service procedures.
It is requested to have a very good command of English (C1) and good command of French (B2).

YOUR ROLE:
- Contribute to the coordination of briefings and lines to take;
- Draft and coordinate inputs for notes, briefings and speeches in relation with the work of DG RTD;
- Contribute to inter-institutional relations;
- Contribute to the coordination of input and follow up of files for the Commissioner(s) or Senior Managers;
- Contribute to the coordination of JRC scientific input to initiatives led by DG RTD;
- Contribute to the coordination and identification of new opportunities for collaboration with DG RTD;
- Monitor, analyse and communicate within the JRC, developments in legislation and policy related to priorities in DG RTD;
- Contribute to JRC work in preparation and negotiation of MFF;
- Follow the Commissioners' speeches and priority initiatives relevant for JRC domain of competence;
- Keep JRC Senior management informed about developments in the assigned policy area and on ad hoc files and in particular provide early warning of potential problems.

- Type of contract: Member of the European Commission’s contract staff, Function Group IV (article 3b of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants);
- Duration of contract: 36 months (renewable up to maximum 6 years);
- Area: Science and Research, Analysis and Intelligence, Policy, Advice and Statistics;
- Place of employment: Brussels (BE);
