Do you have a keen interest in exploring how policy advocacy, research, and outreach activities can support social transformation? SOLIDAR is looking for two fellows with a background in both policy and research to join our team and support the implementation of various policy, advocacy and research initiatives. Not familiar with our work? For more info, visit www.solidar.org.
The fellowship program will give you the opportunity to experience and contribute to developing SOLIDAR’s work towards a variety of audiences, including European Union institutions, SOLIDAR members, progressive communities across Europe and beyond. In addition, you will gain and deepen your knowledge of EU policies for a just transition, social justice, popular education, international development cooperation and external relations, and more.
This role will also allow you to discover the working environment of a European member-based network while developing skills in policy analysis, advocacy strategy and event organization.

MAIN TASKS:
- Monitor EU policy developments in the field of social rights, trade, just transition, education and share relevant information with SOLIDAR colleagues and member organsations;
- Draft briefing papers, position papers, and advocacy documents related to the different policies. With a particular focus on either:
- SOLIDAR’s flagship project: the Social Rights Monitor (SRM), which includes drafting national reports and uploading data onto the Interactive Web Map;
- Mapping policies and drafting analysis, statements and positions in one or more of the following policy fields: just transition, trade, international relations, education, or industrial policy.
- Assist with project deliverables and ensure timely delivery of narrative reports;
- Participate in meetings and events around EU institutions to report back to SOLIDAR Secretariat;
- Collaborate with SOLIDAR members on advocacy campaigns and policy recommendations.
KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Essential
- Relevant academic background or work experience in research, policy analysis, or advocacy, particularly in Political Sciences, European Affairs, Labour studies, Global Trade policy, Business and Human Rights, International Relations, Law, Economics or Social Studies;
- Strong knowledge of civil society organizations in Europe or internationally, familiarity with one or more of our member organisations is an advantage;
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken). Additional languages are a plus;
- Proven ability to plan tasks effectively and work collaboratively in teams;
- Familiarity with EU institutions’ functioning and policies related to just transition, social rights, education and lifelong learning, international development cooperation or trade.
Desirable
- Experience with data collection, interviews, compiling and synthesizing large amounts of information;
- Experience from activism, volunteering, or internships in progressive civil society organisations or political parties, experience from our member organisations is a plus;
- Knowledge of another EU official language.
CONDITIONS:
- The fellowship program is under the form of “convention d’immersion professionnelle” - CIP registered under Belgium law. The position foresees an allowance of 1 .056 Euro net as well as travel support and contribution to meal vouchers;
- The work is intended to be carried out in Brussels. Please note that you must have the right to work and live in Belgium by the start of employment to be considered for this position.
Tentative starting date, duration, and location:
- May 5th, 2025 – December 20th, 2025;
- The position is full-time and based at SOLIDAR offices in Av. Des Arts 50 in Brussels.
