JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are searching for a full-time Neuroscience Communicator & Content Creator who is ready to bring the neuroscience and innovation achievements from our Center to different audiences through various communication channels. This role focuses on developing and implementing an international communication strategy to establish the Center as a global leader in neuroscience research and innovation. Additionally, the role involves organizing and coordinating scientific and network events initiated by our Center.

The VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research is part of the VIB Life Sciences Institute and is embedded within KU Leuven, which ranks among the world’s top 50 universities. At our Center, researchers aim to force a breakthrough in the cure of neuronal and neurodegenerative disorders through studying underlying neurobiological mechanisms of function and disease. Our 15 research labs and numerous expert technology units work together to forge novel insights across 5 core research domains.

YOUR TASKS:

You will work under the guidance and supervision of Patrik Verstreken, Science Director and Hilde Govaert, Admin Director.

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and executing an international strategic communication plan to enhance the Center as a leader in neuroscience research;

  • Liaising with the Center’s scientists on their latest scientific findings or achievements, as well as liaising with the different communities in the Center, and feed this into high-quality content for international audiences;

  • Generating high-quality written and visual content for the Center’s website, published and online media, and social media (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, etc);

  • Actively managing and maintaining the website and social media channels with a focus on broadening global reach;

  • Organizing and coordinating scientific events, such as our yearly Science Day and symposia;

  • Initiating and facilitating scientific outreach and public engagement opportunities;

  • Supporting and reporting on initiatives from our internal communities, including the Postdoc Association, PhD  Association, Scientific Support Association, Inclusion and Diversity Committee, and Eco team;

  • Actively communicating with charity foundations and supporting the Center’s participation in their events;

  • Maintaining the Center’s relations with local, national, and international stakeholders, including funding agencies, patient organizations, scientific collaborators and press;

  • Keeping an active relationship with VIB’s communication office;

  • Executing additional tasks as required within the scope of the role and in consultation with the Center’s management.


PROFILE:

  • Master degree in life sciences/a relevant discipline and the ability to deep-dive into scientific content:

    1. A PhD is not required but a plus;

    2. Background in neuroscience is an asset.



  • Passion for neuroscience and the brain is essential;

  • Proven ability to communicate complex scientific topics clearly and effectively to international and diverse audiences;

  • Excellent verbal, written, and diplomatic communication skills in English. Knowledge of Dutch is not essential for the role;

  • A real team player with the capacity to take initiative and work independently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment;

  • Strong sense of responsibility and a positive, enthusiastic approach to your work;

  • Willingness to engage and to be part of the  community and develop a strong onsite presence;

  • Experience in a similar role, particularly with an international communication focus, is a significant asset.
