We are looking for a full-time Legal Researcher with a background and strong interest in public health (human and animal) and food safety for an immediate position to support our team. This is a unique opportunity to work directly with clients to support public policymaking and join an outstanding and committed multi-disciplinary team of experts. Over the past ten years, Milieu has built strong legal expertise in a range of public health topics and has become a major player involved in the implementation of major framework contracts for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) and for the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), and most recently supporting the Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (DG HERA).

TASKS:
- Research and development of analytical reports on European law covering a range of issues in the fields of work of DG SANTE;
- Research and reporting on the implementation of European Union law in the Member State in which your expertise lies;
- Assistance with the development and drafting of proposals in response to EU tenders;
- Support the management of projects to budget while ensuring that quality and deadline objectives are met, and supporting the coordination of multidisciplinary teams;
- Support the quality control of experts’ inputs and deliverables.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least a master’s degree in law from an EU university (or recognised by the EU);
- Good knowledge of EU legislation and/or strong exposure to the EU institutions’ work;
- Proven expertise or knowledge in some of the following areas:
- Public health (human and animal), including pharmaceutical legislation, tobacco legislation, and veterinary legislation;
- Food safety legislation, including in relation to chemicals legislation (e.g. biocidal products, plant protection products).
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience. Candidates with experience of working in consultancy for the EU institutions will be prioritised;
- An independent, proactive and self-starter personality with a commitment to quality;
- Well-organised, practical-minded and able to prioritise a busy and varied workload;
- Basic office software skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Clear, concise and accurate writing skills in English, including the ability to review and edit the work of others;
- Knowledge of other EU languages is an asset;
- Knowledge of the EU’s work processes (including Better Regulation) is an asset.
