DESCRIPTION:
The FSA is seeking a highly motivated self-starter Legal / Policy Officer. This role aims to reinforce the FSA’s advocacy work for fairer licensing of standard essential patents to facilitate a healthy innovation ecosystem and the roll-out of the Internet of Things.
Are you an agile professional with an interest in technology, IP and/or competition law, who has experience working in international environment and with diverse stakeholders? As part of a small, but mighty team, you will be expected to contribute to planning and delivering public affairs campaigns on high-stakes technology policy issues.
We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, with good knowledge of EU policy development processes, strong analytical and project management skills and who excels at managing cross-functional relationships. A successful applicant will become part of a team dealing with some of the most interesting and intellectually challenging public policy issues of today.
Because of the scope, complexity, and diversity of the FSA’s advocacy work, our team members must be flexible, resourceful and able to work collaboratively with almost 50 members of the association to develop and present policy solutions. While the FSA team is based in Brussels, and the work is mainly focused on Brussels, it may also include public affairs projects in key European markets or other jurisdictions.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate analytical impact assessment of relevant regulatory and legal developments;
- Develop and execute project plans in relation to policy developments and stakeholder engagement;
- Contribute to the FSA’s advocacy narratives by developing proof points and stances in key policy areas and support the development of external engagement strategies, working closely with the FSA’s Secretary General and members;
- Work to build and maintain relationships with key policy makers, and to find engagement opportunities with businesses and other third-party organisations;
- Draft read-ahead documents and other materials supporting meetings and events;
- Stay up-to-date on policy and legal developments; contribute to regular updates for members of the FSA, including written overviews and slide presentations.
YOUR PROFILE:

- A university degree; ideally, legal, international relations, economics or public policy background;
- At least several years of experience in Brussels and a good understanding of how it works;
- Strong project management skills, proven to be successful in balancing concurrent projects;
- Excellent editorial and storytelling skills; demonstrable experience of communicating to a wide variety of senior internal and external stakeholders, via verbal, written and presentation forms;
- Fluency in and/or deep interest in technology;
- Detail oriented, well organised and a sense of initiative;
- English native level.
