TERMS OF REFERENCE:

Join our team as a legal intern and contribute to UNHCR’s work on the protection of refugees. This role offers a rich learning experience and the chance to build valuable skills in public international law and EU law.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • Be a recent graduate or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme, preferably in (international) law / political sciences / international relations, from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO;

  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of UNHCR.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct research on public international law and EU law related to refugee issues;

  • Monitor and report on case-law, with a focus on regional and international courts;

  • Prepare a monthly update on significant judicial developments in refugee law;

  • Organize internal meetings related to UNHCR’s engagement with international and domestic courts and prepare minutes of the meetings;

  • Assist in drafting documents related to UNHCR court interventions and legal commentaries prepared by the Legal Team;

  • Manage an online database of UNHCR court interventions and commentaries and maintain an internal SharePoint web-page;

  • Monitor discussions on the ECRE/ELENA Forum and highlight pertinent issues;

  • Keep track of seminars, conferences, and events related to strategic litigation and EU refugee law;

  • Assist with the organization of meetings, events, workshops, and trainings;

  • Attend meetings and webinars and provide summaries of key points;

  • Provide administrative and clerical support as needed.
