JOB DESCRIPTION:

Missing Children Europe is looking to recruit a versatile and dynamic (Junior) Project Officer with a true passion for children’s rights, to accomplish evidence-based policy change in the field of missing children, in particular related to migration and trafficking.

The successful candidate will assist with project coordination, conduct research, engage with national stakeholders, and contribute to the development and delivery of training for professionals. They will also support the creation of evidence-based guidelines to strengthen child protection systems and enhance anti-trafficking efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The (Junior) Project Officer will support the Senior Project Officer on Migration and work in close cooperation with other colleagues in implementing research, analysis and other project activities in the field of migration and trafficking.

  • Support project activities related to protection of unaccompanied minors on the move, including in the context of trafficking and missing;

  • Assist in coordinating project activities in Belgium, liaison with national stakeholders in the area of migration, trafficking and child protection;

  • Conduct qualitative research, carry out a needs assessment through desk research, focus groups and in-depth interviews with the stakeholders, including judicial authorities, law enforcement, civil society organizations, and government agencies;

  • Contribute to identifying challenges and best practices in addressing child trafficking within Belgium and the EU;

  • Support stakeholder engagement, including governmental bodies, NGOs, international organizations, and community groups;

  • Participate in and support the preparation and delivery of the training modules, workshops and high-level events;

  • Assist in drafting, editing, and writing reports, guides, handbooks, and other practical resources;

  • Analyse research findings and contribute to the production of project deliverables.


PROFILES, SKILLS AND BACKGROUND:

  • Master’s degree in social/political sciences, migration studies, human rights, law, or other related field;

  • 1-3 years of relevant professional experience;

  • Strong qualitative research skills, including experience in conducting stakeholder interviews, focus groups, needs assessments and/or context analysis;

  • Knowledge of the Belgian legal framework and key stakeholders in the area of child protection, trafficking and migration is required. Previous engagement with these stakeholders is an advantage;

  • Fluency in French and Dutch is a must, as is a strong knowledge of English as working language;

  • Excellent analytical and methodological research skills;

  • Strong report writing and editing capabilities;

  • Strong organizational skills;

  • Ability to multitask and work in a dynamic, multicultural environment;

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders;

  • Prior experience in EU-funded project implementation is an asset;

  • Experience of working with vulnerable young people and children is an advantage.


Having a permit to work in Belgium is required.

  • Location: Brussels, Belgium;

  • Contract Type: Part time (40 %), Fixed-term 1 year;

  • Languages Required: Fluency in English, French and Dutch;

  • Starting date: As soon as possible no later than 1 April 2025.


Title and remuneration will depend on the candidate’s experience and qualification, following the remuneration scheme of Missing Children Europe. Packages include holiday scheme, 13th month, lunch vouchers, hospitalisation insurance and full reimbursement of public transport costs.
