ABOUT THE ROLE:
In line with the Paris Agreement and the EU net zero 2050 target, the ECF Climate Finance Strategy aims to ensure the global financial system is transformed to make financial flows consistent with a 1.5-degree pathway and climate-resilient development by:
- Working on increasing Paris-aligned finance flows: ensuring an increase in development finance, particularly through reform of international financial institutions; greater mobilization of private capital catalyzed by development finance; and ensure fiscal and monetary tools are used effectively to support the transition;
- Supporting the shift to a net zero financial system: ensuring that the financial sector has the tools and methodologies to plan its approach to the transition; that corporate and financial actors provide the information and data required to assess their sustainability impacts; and that they are held to account for their climate impacts and commitments to meet net zero;
- Working on knowledge gaps and supporting capacity building: ensuring that policymakers, central bankers, supervisors have the knowledge and skills to create ambitious and robust policy on sustainable finance.
This means supporting activities such as the following:
- Supporting the implementation of ambitious EU sustainable finance agenda, including ensuring corporate and finance accountability, greater disclosure and an ambitious EU budget;
- Working to leverage Europe's role in global approaches to increasing financial flows to climate and development action particularly through targeted work in priority EU member states and with Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).
The Junior Associate, Climate Finance, reports to the ProgramManager, Climate Finance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job offers an excellent opportunity to engage with and support a growing ECF program at an important stage in the development of the climate finance debate. The post holder will play a key role in supporting the ECF Climate Finance Strategy.
Key responsibilities of the Junior Associate role include:
- Director and Team support: lead on team administration tasks, including but not limited to diary support for Director, organizing and scheduling conference calls, team meetings, some finance support (invoicing), ECF operational liaisons (IT etc);
- Team organization: helping the team to deliver through drafting of meeting minutes, maintenance of contact lists, team organization tools such as Monday.com;
- Strategy accountability: assisting the Director and team to ensure robust implementation of ECF's Climate Finance strategy, organizing a process for review and monitoring, evaluation and learning, tracking contribution of grants to the strategy etc;
- Grant-making support: anchored in the ECF Climate Finance Strategy, supporting Director and team to implement, monitor and evaluate strategic grant programs with our network of grantees and partners;
- Conducting desk research and drafting of briefings: monitoring policy developments and communicating findings from major reports to colleagues and grantees, proofreading and document formatting support;
- Event logistics: support on the organization of meetings, retreats, conferences and team travel as needed;
- Policies and processes: support development, updating, and implementation of procedures and processes for improving internal organization, online security, information management, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience and competencies
- A genuine interest in the mission and values of the ECF;
- Excellent organizational capabilities and attention to detail and time management skills, particularly prioritization of tasks;
- Proven ability to work well under pressure, take initiative and be a creative problem-solver;
- Interest and capability in research tasks, including the summary and clear presentation of complex information and the drawing if core conclusions;
- Looking to grow and develop a career in climate change, climate finance and development, any experience in climate or development finance an advantage;
- People orientated, can-do attitude; proven experience and ability to work as part, and in support, of a team;
- Excellent communications skills in English (spoken and written).
