The S&D Group in the European Parliament is recruiting an Italian language Press Officer - administrator grade AD 5, Temporary Agent 2 c) of the CEOs.

DUTIES:

  • Draft Press Releases, lines-to-take, opinion-pieces, speeches, speaking points and video scripts;

  • Conceive, plan and implement communication plans and strategies;

  • Liaise with the accredited press corps in Brussels and in Italy, and pitch stories to the media;

  • Ensure that information is appropriately targeted on relevant specialist media;

  • Draft and place articles for the S&D Group including the leadership in national and European media;

  • Liaise with policy advisors, social media team, audio-visual team, web and publications team and others on the communication in relevant policy areas;

  • Organise and moderate press events, press briefings and interviews;

  • Advise on content to be published on the website;

  • Write in English as well as in Italian, Press Releases and Communications for the Group when required;

  • Contribute to the regular maintenance and update of the media database and distribution lists, as well as to the monitoring of the media impact and coverage of the Group;

  • Cooperate closely with the Head of Unit and Head of Department to ensure the smooth running of the Department, especially proposing media initiatives.


CANDIDATES MUST FULFIL THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: 

  • Be a national of a Member State of the European Union;

  • Enjoy full rights as citizens;

  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by national laws on military service;

  • Produce the appropriate character references as to the suitability for the performance of their duties.


QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

  • A level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma;

  • At least two years' professional experience as a press officer or journalist, relating to the nature of duties laid out, acquired after a university degree as set out in the first indent;

  • Very good knowledge of Community mechanisms and European institutions;

  • Proven ability to carry out conceptual and analytical work;

  • Capacity for team work in a multinational and multicultural environment;

  • A very good knowledge of the Italian and European Union legal, institutional and political systems.


KNOWLEDGE OF LANGUAGES:

For the requirements of the post (Article 12(2) CEOs), candidates must have a thorough knowledge of English and Italian (C1 level). For the requirements of the post, a good knowledge of one of the following working languages of the S&D Group: Spanish, French or German is required (B2 level). Knowledge of other official languages of the EU will be an asset.

The work requires frequent travel outside Brussels, in particular to Strasbourg.The selection procedure will be on the basis of qualifications and tests.

Frequent travel outside Belgium may be required, especially to Strasbourg during the parliamentary sessions.
