As International Category Manager Sweet Treats you design and implement the overall international category management strategy for the category Sweet Treats. This category represents a large part of the total revenue of the Bakery Products business line, which in turn is the biggest of two business lines within Vandemoortele.

In the context of a change towards a more consumer and marketing driven approach within Vandemoortele, you are responsible for managing the Sweet Treats category on an international level. You hold full responsibility for the category portfolio, including P&L/turnover. You need to develop a long-term strategy for the category with a focus on innovation and margin improvement. At the same time, you execute and implement your category management strategy in the countries, helping the local businesses to activate the products in their respective markets. The International Category Manager Sweet Treats reports to the International Senior Marketing Director Bakery Products.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND CHALLENGES ARE: 

  • Define the category objectives in terms of volume, market share, net sales value, gross profit;

  • Increase the profitability of the portfolio and the quality of the product mix in all its dimensions (regarding market share, evolution, penetration, distribution, etc.);

  • Perform a SWOT-analysis of the portfolio, eliminating non-performing products and driving new product development;

  • Monitor the products throughout the product lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing product, consumer’s needs & expectations and customer requirements, defining the product vision;

  • Transform consumer needs, market insights, trends, sales data and shopper insights into marketing plans and actions within the different channels (foodservice, artisanal bakeries, retail) for all European countries;

  • Translate the category management strategy (portfolio, product range, pricing, brands, marketing) into local action plans within the country organizations;

  • Stimulate buy-in from the local markets by participating in category meetings, local projects, etc.;

  • Assist the International Key Accounts regarding the development of their bakery assortment in line with their portfolio and marketing plans;

  • Set-up and follow-up the budgets and plans; provide internal communication and external marketing communication about the category;

  • Work closely together with R&D, sales and other departments, to deliver winning products;

  • Manage teams in the local markets, structure and organize the department to come to an efficient organization.

ARE YOU THE ONE WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • You have at least 10 years of marketing experience, including experience in category management; track record as high performer in the food industry, ideally both in B2B and B2C, alternatively only in one of both;

  • You hold a Master Degree preferably in Economics, Commercial Engineering or a related field. Additional Master Degree is a definite plus;

  • You have an international and intercultural experience and mindset, preferably having worked and lived abroad;

  • You act analytically. You analyse issues in a clear, consistent and objective manner. Furthermore, you examine facts, obtain information and tactfully involve stakeholders in evaluating and resolving issues. You focus on the most critical information necessary in order to understand problems and integrate information from a variety of sources to arrive at optimal solutions;

  • You act strategically, formulate effective strategies. You play a direct role in determining how the marketing/category management department can achieve its objectives in the most effective possible manner;

  • You make sound decisions in time and involve the right people for the job. You break down the decision-making process into actionable steps that ultimately help in more accurate decisions. You think through issues from multiple perspectives and take all important issues into account when making decisions;

  • You have excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other European language is a plus;

  • You work at the head office located in Ghent (Belgium). Travel percentage of about 25-30% (depending on the projects it can be less).
