In this context the team is looking for a Head of Policy ready to build an ambitious and exciting adventure together.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analysis of European policies and drafting of documents: position papers, reports, contributions to European Commission consultations, articles, speeches, presentations;
- Develop AFS policy positions on a range of issues in conjunction with the AFS DG and Senior Advisor and AFS Membership;
- Provide strategic guidance and counsel to the structure on policies;
- Brief the AFS Director General on policy developments and provide regular policy briefings for the AFS Membership;
- Design the organization’s campaigns and provide general organizational support for the Association;
- Develop advocacy and outreach strategies for AFS;
- Manage the implementation of these strategies;
- Ensure horizontal coordination with relevant colleagues on the political/technical dossiers;
- Liaise with AFS’s partners;
- Participate in meetings (in Brussels, EU or at international level) (such as members meetings, meetings with policy makers etc.) and assume responsibility for the management of the corresponding political subjects and dossiers;
- Develop a network of policy contacts within the EU institutions;
- Develop the necessary structures (in conjunction with the DG) to allow AFS to proactively follow and engage on fast moving policy developments in the EU and EU member states;
- Represent AFS in front of policymakers and promote AFS policy positions, including on policy panels.
DESIRED PROFILE:
- Preferably a master’s degree in Law, Economics, Social Sciences, International Affairs or Political Sciences (with a specialization in European Affairs);
- Professional experience (with a minimum of around 8 years required) in European affairs and a thorough understanding of the functioning of the European institutions;
- Interpersonal communication skill to participate in meetings with business partners and counterparts;
- Capable of assessing the business consequences of new legislation and/or technologies;
- Proactive person, capable of working on his/her own but in close cooperation with the AFS Director General;
- A real interest in startup/innovation ecosystem with an emphasis on business and financial issues (growth, access to fundings, startup lifecycle etc.) is a must;
- A previous experience in a startup/scaleup or in an entrepreneurial project (association, network etc.) would be a strong advantage;
- Previous experience in the field of the ‘digital economy’ would be a plus;
- Proven management skills and strong team work spirit;
- Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Office: Sq. de Meeûs, 1000, Brussels, Belgium;
- Remote work: Max. two days a week;
- Package: To be discussed;
- Starting date: January 2025.
