European Bioplastics is seeking a Head of Communications (m/f/d) starting as soon as possible.

European Bioplastics (EUBP) is the industry association representing the entire value chain of the bioplastics industry in Europe. Together with our more than 80 members we develop positions and contribute to legislative processes around the topics of resource efficiency, bioeconomy, circular economy, waste management, and climate change.

The bioplastics industry is a young and fast-growing sector. Bioplastics offer sustainable alternatives to traditional plastics, which are increasingly being scrutinized due to environmental implications associated with their use and disposal. The advantages of bioplastics range from a significantly lower carbon footprint, less dependency on fossil fuels, to multiple end-of-life options, including recycling, biodegradation, and industrial composting.

With its headquarters currently based in the German capital of Berlin, EUBP has been a key player in shaping the policy environment for our industry in Europe for over 20 years. For our office in Brussels, we are currently looking for a Head of Communications to take the communication on bioplastics to the next level.

THE ROLE:

European Bioplastics is the largest bioplastics association worldwide and the first contact point and knowledge partner for policy makers, industry, research, and consumers in all issues and questions surrounding the potentials of bioplastics for a strong and circular bioeconomy in Europe.

As Head of Communications, you will be responsible for coordinating all internal and external communications activities of the association, and you will be the first person of contact for press inquiries. You will further be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Planning and implementing internal and external communication projects and activities;

  • Writing press releases, speeches, and presentations for the association’s internal and external communication;

  • Developing communication concepts and measures;

  • Creating communication material, such as brochures and newsletters;

  • Managing and maintaining digital communication channels, including content creation and further development of the association’s online communication strategy and activities;

  • Processing and responding to (press) inquiries;

  • Managing the association’s internal working group for communication and dialogue;

  • Supporting the organisation of conferences, workshops, and dialogue-oriented events.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • You have a relevant university degree and at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in media and public relations;

  • You are fluent in written and spoken English, ideally at native-speaker level, as well as a second EU language;

  • You have a feel for scientific topics and can communicate complex issues to different target groups;

  • Ideally, you also have a good knowledge of the issues surrounding the bioeconomy and a comprehensive overview of the relevant media landscape in Brussels;

  • You like working in a team and showing initiative, you have a secure and convincing manner as well as strong interpersonal and communicative skills;

  • You are experienced in professional handling of digital platforms and social media as well as Office applications, Photoshop, and InDesign.

WHAT WE OFFER:

We offer you a versatile and responsible role at the interface of politics and industry, a lot of creative freedom, and a strong network in the bioeconomy.

  • An open-ended full-time employment contract with flexible time management;

  • Remuneration that adequately reflects both the professional background of the successful candidate as well as the tasks to be performed;

  • A motivated, dynamic team (mostly based in Berlin, but growing in Brussels) that is always ready to support.
