JOB DESCRIPTION:

Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe's leading clean transport think tank and campaign group, is looking to hire a new position to coordinate the work at the intersection of transport and electricity. As Grid and Electricity Manager, you will lead T&E’s work on integrating transport electrification with Europe’s electricity systems, with a focus on advancing grid readiness for zero emission transport, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) standards and adoption, and other supporting EU policies.

Reporting to the Energy Director and working collaboratively across T&E’s road (cars and trucks), non-road (shipping, energy, aviation), and national teams, you’ll be instrumental in building and coordinating strategies for a seamless, sustainable integration of electric vehicles into Europe’s grids. This position offers the chance to lead ground-breaking work at the intersection of transport and energy in Europe.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Shape and coordinate T&E’s strategy and advocacy campaign on grids and the integration of transport within the wider electricity system. Responsible for developing positions on EU initiatives, ensuring T&E priorities are central to policy development and implementation;

  • Develop and execute advocacy campaigns for EU policies on grids, flexibility and transport grid integration;

  • Oversee T&E’s European programme on grid integration of electrified transport, including advancing the EU Grids Action Plan and supporting legal frameworks on European grids;

  • Serve as spokesperson on EU transport-electricity integration, representing T&E’s vision in discussions with policymakers, industry, and partner organizations;

  • Drive cross-team and national-level collaboration: working in partnership with T&E’s policy and national office teams and directors in the implementation of the work. Ensure strategic alignment across T&E’s teams working on road and non-road electrification and national offices, coordinating work to ensure consistency and coherence in goals, timelines, and advocacy;

  • Build partnerships with key external stakeholders, including EU policymakers, grid operators, and industry experts, to drive impactful outcomes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will be collaborative, strategic, and technically skilled, with a proven track record in energy/transport policy and program management. You should be able to work across multiple teams and coordinate complex projects with high-level accountability and communication skills.

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in power systems, grid integration/flexibility, energy/capacity markets, or utility regulation  (e.g. within a utility, TSO, DSO, Charge Point Operator or similar organization);

  • Strong program management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage cross-team initiatives;

  • Ability to develop and execute advocacy strategies, aligning T&E’s priorities with evolving EU policies;

  • Understanding of policy decision-making and how it affects the electricity industry and consumers;

  • Experience in EU policy advocacy and policy analysis is a bonus;

  • Enjoys scoping new projects;

  • Good communication skills, with the ability to effectively represent T&E’s policy positions to diverse audiences. Ability to grasp complex issues and translate them into non-technical content;

  • Enjoy working across several teams.

The position will be primarily based in Brussels but would involve occasional travel and offers flexibility for working from home (2/3 days per week).
