COMPNAY DESCRIPTION:

Established in 2018, the European IWT Platform serves as the executive body for both the European Barge Union (EBU) and the European Skippers' Organization (ESO). In this role, the IWT Platform supports the EU-level advocacy efforts of both organizations and also actively promotes the smart, sustainable, and competitive development of IWT through targeted initiatives and collaborative projects. Operating through its specialized committees and its Brussels office, the European IWT Platform is an active participant in, and contributor to, expert discussions and policy formulation in the domain of inland navigation. It collaborates with a diverse range of governance structures at the EU, regional, and national levels, thereby amplifying its contributions and influence.

The EIWTP is looking for a General Manager of its Brussels based office. The General Manager will work in close cooperation with the Secretary Generals of the founding organisations EBU and ESO and the Board of Directors. He/she will play a key role in representing the inland waterway sector and thus assist in realizing its objectives in the various EU policy areas.

The candidate will manage the European IWT platform based on the job description and internal guidelines. He/she is part of the management team together with the Secretary Generals of EBU and ESO. He/she will be responsible to coordinate the different activities and projects carried out under the platform. Our ideal candidate will be a motivational leader and strong networker. The (General) Manager will be a strategic thinker who is able to balance short-term needs with long-term perspectives, able to translate challenges into opportunities. He/she will have excellent communication skills and be able to represent our organization to a wide variety of stakeholders.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing a predominantly international organisation including HR and financial management;

  • Coordinating the different committees and projects under the organisation;

  • Representing the organisation at all levels and institutions of relevance, in particular the European institutions and river commission;

  • Contributing to the development of internal strategies in close co-operation with the governing bodies;

  • Implementing the internal strategies and formal decisions taken by the Board of Directors.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Academic profile and master degree in a relevant area (such as political sciences, economics, law, BA, engineering, transport & logistics, etc.);

  • Good knowledge of working of the European institutions and good insight in EU policy and decision making;

  • Ability to work independently, being flexible and ready to travel on a regular basis;

  • Relevant experience and track record of writing and developing position papers, speeches and presentations;

  • Knowledge of and experience in European project calls, both in applications and implementation;

  • Excellent communication and social skills;

  • Outstanding understanding of the English language in writing and speaking; knowledge of Dutch, French and German is - in that order - considered an asset;

  • Managerial experience, strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Demonstrated experience in motivating parties to joining forces;

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, Boards and other stakeholders and acting as connector with authority;

  • Able to take responsibility in a complex environment;

  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with different interests and stakeholder management;

  • Passion for the organization’s mission and vision.
