Eureka is the world’s biggest public network for international cooperation in R&D and innovation. Since 1985, governments and public funding agencies in our network have supported the R&D of over 7,000 ground-breaking commercialised innovations that have positively impacted economic growth and industry competitiveness. With several programmes, our network funds small, medium and large companies, universities and research organisations who undertake international R&D projects for civilian purpose.

The Brussels-based Eureka Secretariat supports the network’s strategic objectives, manages Eureka programme operations, develops and maintains IT platforms, stores data and promotes Eureka to a wide range of stakeholders and beneficiaries.

One of Eureka’s flagship programmes is the Innovative SME Partnership, co-funded by the European Commission. The funding programme for collaborative international innovation targeted at SMEs called Eurostars, is a main component of the Partnership.

To support its work, the Eureka Secretariat, based in Brussels (Etterbeek), is looking for 1 full time Finance and Accounting Coordinator.

The role involves managing financial records and ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The selected candidate will contribute to the quarterly and annual financial reports, budgeting, forecasting, and conducting audits to ensure the integrity of financial information. Additionally, this position involves tasks related to the financial management of the Innovative SME Partnership programme.

The ideal candidate will possess strong numerical and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to support financial decision-making and strategic planning. Effective communication both written and oral in English and proficiency in accounting software, are essential for success in this role.The finance and accounting coordinator will report to the Director of Finance and Administration and work in a team of 3 covering finance, human resource and office management. We are looking for a proactive, self-driven and dynamic professional, interested in and motivated by international collaboration, to join our team.


  • Completing quarterly and yearly accounting closure procedures and financial reports;

  • Analytical project management accounting and reporting;

  • Assisting with budgets, forecasts and cash flow;

  • Calculation of membership fee;

  • Responsible for timesheet management, reporting and follow-up;

  • Provide overall assistance in accounting and financial matters;

  • Prepare required information for internal and external audits;

  • Handling of VAT matters;

  • Further development of ERP system;

  • Back up for other team members during holidays and unexpected absences.


  • Excellent spoken and written English is essential. French or Dutch (written and spoken) are an asset;

  • Strong organizational skills, including time-management and able to work autonomously;

  • Ability to take the lead in implementing new systems and optimising accounting processes and workflows;

  • Experienced Microsoft Office applications user, particularly of Excel and an ERP system. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central is an advantage.


  • A level of higher education corresponding to a bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting; a master’s degree is an asset;

  • A minimum of two years relevant work experience, preferably between three-five years, with financial reporting, preparation of periodic and annual reports as well as knowledge of generally accepted Belgian accounting principles (GAAP);

  • Knowledge of or experience with European Commission financial regulations/procedures would be an advantage.
