Do you want to find out how the European political decision-making process works, gain experience in a liberal think tank and Own the Future? Then the European Liberal Forum (ELF), might be the right place for you.
ELF, the think tank and political foundation of the ALDE party and the European liberal family is looking for two fellows for a 6-month period starting in March. The fellowships are ideal for young professionals interested in research, policy and liberalism. At ELF, together with our 57 member organisations, we promote discussions and broker liberal ideas for Europe’s future.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Enlargement and Governance Fellow
Governance
- Draft minutes during ELF’s statutory meetings including Board, Taskforce and General Assemblies;
- Assist the Executive Director and Head of Operations with the planning and organisation of General Assemblies and Board meetings;
- Assist with the engagement of potential new members, in line with ELF’s membership strategy.
Enlargement
- The Fellow will assist with ELF’s Enlargement Now project including;
- Drafting policy briefings arising from ELF’s enlargement roadshow;
- Monitoring the enlargement process including analyzing the latest updates and policy documents from the Commission, Parliament and Council;
- Meeting with stakeholders in European Member States and potential EU member countries;
- Assisting our members working on enlargement with research and policy development including writing blogposts etc;
- Attending relevant conferences, meetings as required;
- Perform other duties, as necessary, in support of ELF’s mission;
- Travel will be required for this role.
Policy and Research Fellow
- Identify and develop topics for research and policy initiatives or other ELF activities;
- Conduct research and policy work at the EU level related to one of the strategic vectors of the Policy and Research Unit;
- This year we will prioritize topics related to security and defense, technopolitics/technosustainability and competitiveness. However, we are open to interesting suggestions that fall within the broader range of our strategic vectors. Please indicate your specific research and policy interests in your application, and what you would like to achieve during your fellowship;
- On an ad hoc basis, participate in events, conferences and other meetings on behalf of ELF;
- Perform other duties when needed, in support of the Policy and Research Manager, in line with ELF’s mission. For example, helping to review draft proposals and publications.
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least a master’s degree in a field relevant to the work of ELF;
- Work or research experience of up to 2 years is desired;
- For those interested in the Enlargement and Governance Fellowship, experience from the Western Balkans, Eastern Partnership countries or South Caucasus would be beneficial;
- Organised with proven ability to meet deadlines and manage own workload;
- Proactive self-starter, able to work both independently and in a team;
- Fluent written and spoken English with excellent communication skills.
WHAT WE OFFER:
- Work contract conditions under Belgian law ;
- A contract for 6 months, preferably CIP Scheme in Belgium. Contracts can be extended by 6 months depending on the situation of the applicant and performance;
- Salary is approximately 1350-1650 EUR / Month;
- Meal vouchers;
- Transport;
- Flexibility in terms of work location (not required to be in the office everyday).
