EIT Food is Europe’s leading food innovation initiative, working to make the food system more sustainable, healthy and trusted by consumers. Established by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) in 2017, EIT Food is a fast-growing partnership organisation focusing on entrepreneurship and innovation in the food sector.

EIT Food is a member organisation bringing together key industry players, agri-food startups, research centres and universities from across Europe representing the food value chain in Europe. In addition to thematic leadership, EIT Food is also responsible for coordinating a multi-million euro EU grant allocation from the EIT and distributing it among its partners and stakeholders for the implementation of projects.

EIT Food headquarters (HQ) are based in Leuven (Belgium) and it has 5 regional offices (Co-Location Centres or CLCs) in Europe (based in Poland, Spain, Germany, the UK and Belgium), each working with and for partners in several EIT Food partner countries.

The Brand and Communications team steers the purposeful use of communication, to its key stakeholders, by the organization to fulfil its mission. It is responsible for successfully building and maintaining EIT Food’s position as the world’s largest and most dynamic food innovation community, creating a positive impact on the EIT Food’s name and thereby growing our brand (value).  This is achieved through developing and implementing EIT Food’s communication and corporate marketing strategies, aligned to the EIT Food strategy.  In its approach the Brand and Communications team works closely with other teams and departments of EIT Food , establishing integrated communication across EIT Food together. Brand and Communications encompasses media relations, digital/online communication, community relations, events, publicity/sponsorship, internal communication (partners & employees), issues management, corporate communication, branding and campaigns.

The Event Manager is responsible for successfully leading the organisation’s event strategy, as well as positioning EIT Food through the events EIT Food organizes. Events are an important communication tool for EIT Food to achieve direct emotional involvement of the target group, positively affecting the relationship to our brand. The event manager is instrumental in this by overseeing and organising events and applying fresh ideas and marketing and promotion techniques that will make an impact to the selected target audience(s). This role is a working supervisor role, which means that next to managerial responsibilities, you are co-working with the event officer in executing the set events and activities. You will be part of the Brand and Communications team comprised of communication professionals from across Europe, reporting to the Director of  Communications and Events.

Event strategy delivery & event organisation

  • Set event calendar for EIT Food based on events strategy and principles, together with Director of Communications and Events;

  • Lead and oversee the implementation of the EIT Food event strategy. Co-operate with event counterparts in regions and impact areas to oversee the EIT Food event calendar;

  • Organise/support and deliver high-quality EIT Food events of a diverse nature and for different target groups (eg, internal focused events such as the partner assemblies, and open events, such as the EIT Food Annual Event) or EIT Food contribution to 3rd party events (for example booth organisation);

  • Provide the full spectrum of events management support of selected events including o.: source and negotiate with vendors and suppliers; booking venues; liaising with partners, helping to source speakers; briefing speakers; communication with invitees, and analyze the event’s success and prepare post-event report;

  • Ensure events meet the strategic aims set and are delivered on-time, on-brand and to budget;

  • Active role in programme development: work with the EIT Food’s leadership community and key internal stakeholders to ‘shape’ event programmes of selected event. Lead the programme development of the EIT Food annual event;

  • Develop agency briefs, evaluate cost estimates / develop best-value-for money analysis and supervise pricing agreements ensuring value for money, in accordance with procurement procedures of EIT Food as well as funding modalities of EIT/Horizon Europe programme;

  • Ensure events are completed smoothly and step up to resolve any problems that might occur;

  • Come up with suggestions to enhance the event’s success.

Event communication: branding and campaigning

  • Develop event communication plan (for each event), work closely with the brand & communication manager on event communication, visual brand identity and tone of voice;

  • Identify and implement opportunities to promote EIT Food´s (event) activities;

  • Develop and disseminate communication collateral that increases visibility among selected targets;

  • Develop and write content pieces/stories for EIT Food communications channels;

  • Oversee the design and production of EIT Food event promotional materials/ communication collateral/displays/stands, ensuring consistent incorporation of EIT (Food`s) brand guidelines;

  • Manage the merchandise assortment of EIT Food, arrange distribution over the different EIT Food offices;

  • Advise colleagues/partners on the correct implementation of the EIT (Food) branding and communication in their event activities.


  • Support the Director of Communications and Events with developing and validating activities in the event sphere to support the financial sustainability of the organisation;

  • Where relevant join part of Working Groups;

  • Working closely with the other members of the Brand & Communication team and wider teams. Support on ad hoc basis in other areas of communication when required;

  • Actively liaise with other EIT Food functions such as the different impact and regional teams, Finance.

Team and agency management

  • Manage the event officer, including professional development;

  • Source, negotiate with vendors and suppliers. Manage (event) agencies to successfully deliver work agreed;

  • Embed a culture of excellence and continual improvement, ensure that best practices and latest trends in events are implemented.

Budget Management and reporting

  • Ensure effective budgetary management of assigned work package: events are delivered on Reconciling event costs with invoices and the budget;

  • Day to day management and execution of events calendar EIT Food and reporting to EIT. Responsible that the calendar is up-to-date;

  • Measure and evaluate the events and write recommendations for following events;

  • Support the Director of Communications and Events with management reporting when required.


  • BSc/BA in PR, marketing, hospitality management or related field or equivalent by experience;

  • Proven experience as event manager (at least 3 year) and team lead;

  • Skilled in project management;

  • Knowledge of KPIs and marketing techniques for event management;

  • People skills: you need to be comfortable connecting with high-level executives, government officials, vendors, co-workers, sponsor reps, suppliers, staff, and event To successfully work with this wide range of people, you’ll need to be able to nimbly resolve conflicts, be a confident but pleasant negotiator, and maintain your sense of humor;

  • Excellent organizational skills, multi-tasking and flexibility. Last minute changes and putting out fires — quickly, quietly, and efficiently — is part of the job;

  • Decisiveness, able to make several decisions at once and make them quickly. A knack for problem-solving, excellent under (time) pressure;

  • A team player;

  • Clear communication;

  • Internal and external service orientation;

  • Outstanding communication and negotiation ability;

  • Passion, with all the stress of being an event organizer, it is important to relly love what you do;

  • Computer savvy; proficient in MS Office;

  • A team player with leadership skills;

  • Understanding of the context of EIT Food, the food industry and the thought-leadership topics of the day that will engage EIT Food’s community is preferred.
