We are seeking a talented and driven scientific director to join the science organization and contribute to our discovery and design projects. In this role, you will bring your leadership and expertise in crop biology to contribute to the development of cutting-edge technologies and products aimed at revolutionizing agriculture and addressing global food security challenges.

The right candidate enjoys a “scale-up” atmosphere and is flexible, shows good judgment, takes initiative and is willing to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to achieve goals and deliverables. Excellent scientific and people leadership skills as well as communication skills are essential for this role as part of an interdisciplinary team. The position is located in Ghent, Belgium.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be a core contributor to the development of the Discovery & Design strategy in alignment with the science portfolio and the company strategy;

  • Provide scientific and technical expertise to further develop and execute our soy trait discovery activities;

  • Lead projects and project teams: design, implement, and coordinate fit-for-purpose scientific experiments, tasks and activities performed by scientists and research assistants, analyze and interpret results and translate key findings for communication to broader set of stakeholders, manage risks;

  • Collaborate with other scientists and stakeholders across projects as well as across other departments at Inari to support achievement of the science portfolio;

  • Stay informed about the latest technological development in the field and strategically manage Intellectual property and external partnerships of the projects;

  • Represent the company in scientific communities, conferences, and partnerships, showcasing Inari’s scientific expertise and fostering collaborative relationships;

  • Manage research associates and scientists, enabling their professional development and growth;

  • Clearly communicate results in written reports and oral presentations;

  • Maintain detailed, accurate and comprehensible records of all experiments and results.


YOUR PROFILE:

  • PhD in Plant Biology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field with 7 years of post-doctoral research experience or equivalent experience in industry;

  • Deep expertise and domain knowledge in crop biology and plant biotechnology is essential; Knowledge of genome editing technologies;

  • Strong record of independent research supported by peer-reviewed publications and/or patents;

  • Ability to thrive and deliver results on goals in a fast-paced, dynamic and highly multi-tasking environment;

  • Demonstrated scientific leadership and project management skills to independently design, implement, coordinate and drive scientific projects to successful outcomes;

  • Demonstrated innovative, critical thinking and problem-solving skills;

  • Proven people leadership and lateral leadership capabilities;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills adapted to the needs of the target audience;

  • Pro-active, highly motivated and strong team player with a high degree of independence;

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;

  • Strong coordination skills, with ability to coordinate among cross-functional teams.

  • Experience with soybean;

  • Experience with physiological crop modelling.
