DESCRIPTION:

UNI Europa, the European services workers union, together with the Nordic Financial Unions, is recruiting a Director for Financial Regulation in Brussels. UNI Europa represents its member unions in the European services sectors and NFU builds cooperation among finance and insurance unions in the Nordic region.

The position entails significant responsibilities and great opportunities to influence our work toward the EU. The Director will drive regulation work to achieve political impact in close cooperation with the colleagues in NFU, UNI and the member unions. The candidate should share the fundamental trade union values and have a good understanding of the Nordic labour market model.

The position involves monitoring, analysing and influencing developments in the European financial sector; coordinating and promoting NFUs as well as UNIs positions towards the EU; maintaining and expanding a network of Nordic and European members and stakeholders, as well as decision-makers; and organising seminars and meetings.

The position is a three-year contract with possible renewal.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Director’s main responsibilities are to monitor, lobby and actively seek to influence the EU regulation of the financial sectors. Activities include:

  • Monitoring the positions, legislation and debates in the EU regarding the financial sector, in conjunction with NFU’s EU Coordinator;

  • Developing contacts with officials of the European Commission, MEPs as well as other stakeholders;

  • Participating in relevant EU meetings/conferences/stakeholder groups in order to network, lobby and represent UNI Europa Finance and NFU;

  • Be responsible for the UNI Europa Finance Regulation Working Group;

  • Organising conferences and policy events;

  • Preparing position papers, briefings and analyses;

  • Providing feedback to the NFU secretariat, the NFU Presidium and Management Board on an ongoing basis;

  • Working closely with the NFU secretariat and NFU member unions.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in Law, Political Science, Business Administration or equivalent;

  • A few years of relevant work experience;

  • Experience and knowledge of EU legislative processes and political influencing;

  • Knowledge of the financial sector, preferably with previous experience in working with the sustainable finance or digital finance agendas;

  • Be a team player and willing to help colleagues in time pressured situations;

  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken);

  • Good command of one of the Nordic languages is desired.


CONDITIONS:

The Director will dedicate 50% of his or her time on NFU defined tasks. The remaining 50% will be dedicated to tasks and duties for UNI Europa Finance. The Director will coordinate closely with the NFU secretariat and must be disposed to travel to the Nordic region when required.

The Director will be employed in the UNI Europa secretariat following the collective agreement and other employment conditions that exist at the UNI Europa secretariat, such as a generous telework agreement.

The Director will be based in, and work from, Brussels. Regular travel is required.
