ECOS is looking for experts in the field of monitoring forest ecosystems and forest degradation and deforestation to represent and defend environmental interests in the development of standards and related policies. Our experts provide us with technical and scientific input and represent ECOS in standardisation processes and multi-stakeholder discussions.
ECOS is an international NGO with a network of members and experts advocating for environmentally-friendly technical standards, policies and laws. With 20 years of experience, ECOS represents nearly 60 national and European members, including the European Environmental Bureau, Friends of the Earth Europe, Transport & Environment and WWF. ECOS IS LOOKING FOR EXPERT(S) WITH AN IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF:
In that context, knowledge of at least one of the following topics is desirable: forest biodiversity, water issues, global forest-related supply chains, voluntary sustainability standards for forestry.
Interested candidates should be able to demonstrate in-depth technical/scientific knowledge in the topic area. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental NGO values and have proven written and oral communication and negotiation skills. Experience with and understanding of the policy context and standardisation developments in the subject area will be considered a strong asset. Fluency in English and willingness to travel are required.

- The main frameworks for forest ecosystem monitoring in Europe such as Forest Europe indicators, national monitoring frameworks, and approaches from the scientific literature;
- Indicators used for assessing and monitoring forest ecosystem health status and change, e.g. forest structure, deadwood, species diversity, organic carbon stocks, and forest connectivity;
- Methods and tools for monitoring and reporting deforestation and forest degradation, including remote sensing data and chain of custody systems.

- Participate in relevant technical meetings of CEN and ISO to promote ECOS position;
- Prepare technical input through official comments and position papers;
- Report to and liaise with the relevant ECOS Programme Manager;
- Exchange information with ECOS member organisations and other experts when needed.
ECOS OFFERS:
- A daily fee for preparation of meetings, participation and reporting, as well as other relevant tasks;
- Reimbursement of travel costs;
- Per diem to cover accommodation and subsistence costs.
