Are you passionate about communications? Have you proven experience of managing social media campaigns and organising events? Do you have an international mindset? Are you a self-starter looking for your next challenge? The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) wants to hear from you!

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic communications trainee to join our Communications Team in Brussels from September 2024.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to gain hands-on experience in communications and to develop their skills in a fast-paced dynamic non-profit environment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year’s previous experience, strong writing and administrative skills, as well as experience in event management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Visibility products

  • Assist in drafting, editing and proofreading of newsletters, web articles and other communications materials;

  • Provide support for ongoing updating of databases;

  • Assist in management and updating of EED’s website.


Social Media management

  • Assist in management of EED’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn);

  • Create engaging social media posts and assisting with developing social media campaigns;

  • Track and report on social media metrics and analytics.


Event Management

  • Assist in coordination and organising of events, including external events with partners and events held in EED’s offices;

  • Assist with administration and organisation of events, including updating of attendee lists, booking of travel and accommodation for event attendees, and financial planning.


Administrative Support

  • A key part of this role will be to provide administrative support to the communications team for the preparation of contracts, processing of invoices etc.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Postgraduate degree in European or international affairs, sociology, economics, communications or equivalent;


SKILLS:

  • Near native English language communications skills, both written and verbal, with excellent report writing and organisational skills;

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and tools;

  • Basic knowledge of Content Management Systems for websites, Mailchimp and audio-visual packages (Canva, Adobe etc.);

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail;

  • Fluency in another language relevant to EED’s work is an advantage, including Arabic, Ukrainian, Russian, Turkish, French, Serbo-Croat, Albanian etc.


EXPERIENCE:

  • At least one to two years’ experience in communications-related roles;


PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in an international environment;

  • Highly efficient with strong time management skills;

  • Adaptable, Creative and able to quickly problem solve;

  • Self-starter, eager to learn and take on new challenges;

  • Knowledge of democracy support issues and the political context of the EU neighbourhood would be an asset.


BACKGROUND:

The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) is a grant-giving organisation based in Brussels.

EED’s provides flexible support to democracy activists, complementing other EU and member state democracy support programmes. EED provides context-based, demand driven support based on a principle of fostering democracy and facilitating initiatives of local actors. Its geographic mandate covers the European neighbourhood and beyond.

TERMS AND SALARY:

The expected level of monthly remuneration is around €1,900 net per month, in addition to meal vouchers and the reimbursement of a monthly subscription to Brussels public transport.

Work place: EED Secretariat, located in the centre of Brussels, Belgium.

The contractual relations with the trainee will be regulated by a Convention d'immersion professionnelle (a professional immersion agreement under Belgian Law). EED requires all trainees to be less than 30 years old.

For practical reasons, citizenship of an EU Member State or residency in the European Union is a requirement.
