Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking is the largest European research programme in aviation, developing disruptive, cutting-edge technology aimed at significantly reducing CO2, NOx emissions produced by aircraft. Funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe programme, Clean Aviation JU contributes to strengthening European aero-industry collaboration, global leadership and competitiveness. As of 30 of November 2021 the Clean Aviation Joint Undertaking (CAJU) is the legal and universal successor of the Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking (CS2JU) in accordance with the COUNCIL REGULATION (EU) 2021/2085 of 19 November 2021.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Do you believe sustainability communications are an important factor to raise awareness to climate-neutrality? Do you have excellent command of written and spoken English and want to contribute to crafting impactful key-messages?

We are looking for an energetic team player to join the Communications team who will help delivering the communications objectives of the Joint Undertaking by working on a broad range of communications tasks. He/she will report to the Head of Communications and might receive deputization roles if necessary. 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

The Communication Officer is responsible for:

Content creation

  • Drafting, editing and proof-reading blog and web articles, external presentations, keynotes and speeches, as well as other publishable written communication materials;

  • Handle, coordinate and create content for a-hoc and recurrent annual publications (Highlights, Annual Activity report, etc);

  • Proofread Clean Aviation content on social media channels and Newsletters;

  • Coordinate content on the Clean Aviation Intranet.


Press & Media Relations

  • Liaising with journalists, handle queries, drafting press releases, coordinating sponsored campaigns, both EU-related and Industry.


Events

  • General support for online and onsite events in Brussels and abroad on a wide range of strategic and logistic areas, in close coordination with the public and private members of Clean Aviation, as well as relevant suppliers. 


Coordination

  • Support and coordinate communication actions and briefing meetings with CAJU Members and keep the Clean Aviation Communications Network database;

  • Execute a variety of communications tasks such as contracts management and procurement;

  • Implement and assist with general communications/branding requests from Members. 


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

To be considered eligible for selection, an applicant must have met by the closing date of this call, the following formal requirements:

  • Be nationals of one of the Member States of the EU and enjoy full rights as citizens;

  • Have a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of three years or more attested by a diploma;

  • Have a thorough knowledge of one of the official EU languages and an excellent level of English. Candidates are invited to specify in their CV possible language certificates they have obtained to demonstrate their language skills;

  • Produce the appropriate references as to their suitability for the performance of duties of the post;

  • Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws concerning military service;

  • Be fit to perform the duties linked to the post. Before being engaged, a member of the temporary staff shall be medically examined by one of the institution's medical officers in line with the requirement of Art. 12(2)(d) of the CEOS.


SELECTION CRITERIA: 

Essential

  • Have a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least four (4) years attested by a diploma and, after having obtained the diploma, at least three (3) years full-time of appropriate professional experience; OR

  • Have a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least three (3) years attested by a diploma and, after having obtained the diploma, at least four (4) years full-time of appropriate professional experience;

  • Demonstrable professional experience in project management related to communication;

  • Demonstrable professional experience in the organisation of events (e.g. stakeholder forums, workshops, seminars, or conferences), in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary environment, dealing with a broad range of stakeholders;

  • Excellent knowledge of digital communications and proven experience in dealing with social media (on LinkedIn and X channels, as well as hands-on experience with Newsletters and website content);

  • Experience of managing contracts with service providers;

  • Fully proficient in the use of electronic office tools such as Microsoft Office Power Point and Excel. 


Advantageous

  • Demonstrable professional experience related to the aviation sector and its technological challenges ideally gained through several years of professional experience in that field;

  • Demonstrable experience in digital and media tools (Photoshop, Indesign, etc);

  • Experience in budgetary and financial management;

  • Knowledge of EU public procurement and contracts management rules supported by practical experience in implementation of Framework Contacts;

  • Ability to work in French would be an asset.


Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria concerning the required educational qualifications and years of experience, as well as the essential criteria by the deadline of this vacancy. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The successful candidate will be appointed by the Executive Director of the JU as a contractual agent at Function Group IV pursuant to Article 3(a) of the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Communities, for a period of 3 years, which may be renewed.

Candidates should note the requirement under the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants for all new staff to successfully complete a probationary period of 9 months.

The pay of staff members consists of a basic salary supplemented with various allowances. Allowances: in addition to the basic salary, staff members may be entitled to allowances, such as expatriation or foreign residence allowances, family allowance, household allowance, dependent child allowance, pre-school allowance and education allowance.

The place of employment is Brussels, where the JU’s premises are located.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

A Selection Board is nominated by the Appointing Authority of the JU. After screening the applications, the Selection Board will draw up a shortlist of candidates to be invited for an interview. Candidates invited for an interview will also sit a written test related to the fields of the post. Following this, the Selection Board will establish a reserve list of suitable candidates to be approved by the Executive Director.
The Executive Director may decide to interview the best candidates before appointment. Candidates are reminded that the different selection boards’ works are confidential. It is forbidden for candidates to make direct or indirect contact with their members or to ask anybody else to do so on their behalf.

APPOINTMENT AND RESERVE LIST:

The Executive Director of the Joint Undertaking will select the successful candidate and offer the post. A binding commitment can only be made after the verification of all conditions and will take the form of a contract signed by the Executive Director.

The reserve list will be used to fill vacant positions within the JU. Candidates should note that inclusion on the reserve list does not guarantee recruitment.

Recruitment will be based on availability of posts and budget. The reserve list for this post will be valid for 2 years and may be extended at the discretion of the Appointing Authority of the JU.
