We are looking for an Associate Scientist who is innovative, collaborative, and detail-oriented to join our Biologics DS Process Sciences team, based at our UCB campus in Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As an Associate Scientist within the Biologics Drug Substance Process Sciences (BPS) Group, you will be involved in early-stage process development and late-stage process optimization, transfer, and clinical/commercial manufacturing support for cell culture processes to produce protein therapeutics. You will collaborate closely with research, clinical, and commercial manufacturing groups globally, representing DSPS group cell culture activities in cross-functional project teams.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH:

You will collaborate closely with research , commercial manufacturing groups as well as other Drug Substance Process Sciences functions across the globe, forming part of virtual and matrix project teams that span geographies and time zones. You will represent the BPS group in various cross-functional project teams and liaise with stakeholders on cell culture process results, plans, and strategy for CMC projects. Your role involves mentoring team members, leading projects, and driving the technical and scientific exchange with various departments.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • You will design, plan, and execute experiments using Quality by Design principles and Design of Experiment methodology;

  • You will be responsible for accurately documenting experimental protocols, data, and reports;

  • You will support the development and updating of lab policies and procedures;

  • You will provide cell culture and analytics lab support for technology transfers, process validations, and manufacturing operations;

  • You will supervise and/or participate in laboratory activities for cell culture process development, optimization, and scale-up;

  • You will comply with UCB's Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies and actively participate in their enforcement and improvement.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • A Master’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field;

  • Proven experience in mammalian cell-based therapeutic protein expression and culture systems;

  • Relevant industry experience in upstream bioprocessing;

  • Technical expertise in mammalian-cell-based therapeutic protein expression and culture systems;

  • Knowledge in bioengineering, chemical engineering, statistics, molecular biology, analytical methods, and cellular metabolism;

  • Strong team-building skills;

  • Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities;

  • Ability to organize and communicate large amounts of data;

  • Flexibility and the ability to work in a team environment under deadlines;

  • Good command of spoken and written scientific English; knowledge of French is a plus.
