The farm animals programme, which includes the Aquatic Animals Project, focuses on two key pillars: a first pillar on better protection for farm animals, focusing on significantly raising the level of animal welfare in EU legislation, and a second pillar on food systems transformation, focusing on reducing the number of animals farmed for food and replacing slaughtered animal products.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION:
JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
The Aquatic Animals Project Officer has a very good knowledge of aquatic animals’ welfare, particularly the most farmed species in EU aquaculture, ensuring the technical and scientific relevance of the Aquatic Animals Project. The Aquatic Animals Project Officer is responsible for delivering targeted impact for our aquatic animals strategy, producing top technical content, building and delivering advocacy, coordinating relevant Eurogroup for Animals members’ sub-groups, liaising with the wider Eurogroup for Animals’ team (including the Public Affairs team and other programmes) and representing Eurogroup for Animals in different forums.

POSITION IN THE ORGANISATION:
The Aquatic Animals Project Officer is part of the Aquatics team within the wider Farm Animals team and reports to the Aquatic Animals Project Manager. The officer will work closely with and be supported by the other Aquatic Animals Project Officer, as well as the Communications Officer responsible for aquatic animals. They will also be supported by the Farm Animal Programme Manager on technical matters and scientific literature reviews.The Aquatic Animals Project Officer will also collaborate with our Farmed Animals, Public Affairs and Development teams to ensure the integration of aquatic animals in our wider advocacy on animal welfare protections and sustainable food systems. The Aquatic Animals Project Officer will lead our member sub-groups on aquatics work.

- Title: Aquatic Animals Project Officer;
- Hours: Full-time position (38h per week);
- Contract duration: 15 months with the possibility to renew;
- Remuneration: Negotiable based on experience;

- Draft, contribute to, or coordinate policy and lobby documents (e.g., policy briefings).

Coordinate the Aquatic Animals member sub-group

- Organise and manage regular Aquatic Animals sub-group meetings composed of member representatives on technical matters;
- Provide technical support to the member organisations of the aquatic sub-group and drive discussion and reflection on the latest science in the area of fish and aquatic animal welfare;
- Manage conflicting opinions to find a consensus;
- Assist in the administration, management, and reporting of the small grants program to enable Eurogroup for Animals’ member organisations to advocate for improved aquatic animal welfare;
- Represent the position of the sub-group as a unified voice externally.
Contribute to the delivery of the Farm Animals Programme and Aquatic Animals Project strategies

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Qualification and experience
- Advanced degree (DVM, MSc. or PhD) level in an area relevant to the position;
- 5 years' work experience in an area relevant to the position such as marine biology/fisheries, public affairs, advocacy, corporate engagement, law, or environment;
- Advocacy acumen with demonstrated track record of success, ideally with EU institutions;
- A good knowledge and understanding of political processes at EU and international levels;
- Experience with political or campaigning advocacy work and/or collaborations among civil society groups;
- Proven effective management of partnership projects with external stakeholders.
