Euractiv is an independent pan-European media network specialising in EU policies. To strengthen our editorial team in Brussels, we are currently recruiting a: Journalist to cover EU agriculture and food policies
Euractiv is looking for a reporter with a keen interest in all things agriculture and food.
As the ideal candidate you will deliver both breaking news stories and in-depth feature articles focusing on EU agriculture and food policy developments, but also produce exclusive stories. You are confident in linking with politicians, business leaders and activists. As a good team player, you will jump on news trends as the need arises, for example during EU summit meetings.
You will work in an international environment and work closely with our reporters in Paris and Berlin. Together we will critically follow European policymaking and deliver insightful cross-border stories.

What you lack in journalistic experience, you might compensate through your in-depth knowledge of EU agriculture and food policy, or vice versa. This is a full-time employment contract under Belgian law (“contrat à durée indéterminée”), with salary and responsibilities commensurate to the candidate’s level of experience.

- Write breaking news stories, interviews, as well as in-depth and background articles;
- Write in-depth policy briefings and special reports to deadline;
- Conduct interviews with high-level officials, including EU Commissioners, MEPs, business leaders and policy experts;
- Identify and pursue stories that are lurking in the vast machine room of the EU policy factory;
- Contribute to meeting Euractiv’s editorial mission and commitment to balanced reporting.
Profile:
We know this is a wish list and you are unlikely to fulfil all of these criteria perfectly. - At least 2 years of experience in journalism, preferably with a focus on EU Affairs and/or one of the policy fields covered by the Euractiv Agrifood Hub;
- University degree in journalism and/or political science;
- Strong English-language writing skills;
- Ability to write in a way that is interesting for the specialist but still understandable for the wider public;
- Familiarity with EU policies;
- Ability to deliver accurate stories in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to think quickly and provide insights and perspective on reports coming from a wide variety of sources, including EU institutions, business associations and civil society;
- Hard-working, able to respect tight deadlines, proactive, team-player, able to take criticism;
- Other European languages, as well as interest in producing multi-media content, are an asset;
- Eligible to work in the EU.
WHAT WE OFFER:
