CONTEXT AND POSITION:

As the main voice for neuroscience in Europe, FENS – Federation of European Neuroscience Societies aims to increase awareness of the importance of brain research at national, European and global levels in close collaboration with its member societies and partner organisations worldwide. The advocacy and engagement internship will involve training in administrative project management in relation to the implementation of FENS strategic goals. The trainee will work in close collaboration with the FENS administrative team on various projects, including supporting the work of the Advocacy Committee and the Committee on Animals in Research (CARE).

NATURE OF INTERNSHIP:

  • Interdisciplinary focus: Blends science, policy, and communication: an understanding of scientific issues and their social, political, and ethical contexts;

  • Practical experience: Engagement in concrete advocacy campaigns, under the mentorship of professionals;

  • Collaborative and strategic collaboration: Work flexibly with scientists in multiple countries and support their collaboration with politicians, community leaders, and policymakers.


OBJECTIVES OF INTERNSHIP:

  • Develop advocacy skills;

  • Bridge science and policy;

  • Promote scientific awareness and understanding;

  • Foster professional growth.


CONTENT:

The goal is for the trainee to gain experience in international advocacy and engagement-related project administration. Specifically, the programme will include the following:

  • Project administration support for:



  1. The FENS Advocacy Committee;

  2. The FENS Committee on Animals in Research (CARE).



  • Assist in drafting policy memos and documents;

  • Attend and help organise meetings, science briefings and activities oftwo FENS committees;

  • Monitor EU activities, legislation, research and announcements relevant to FENS, scientific funding and policymaking;

  • Help develop supporting materials and tools if needed;

  • Development of general advocacy and engagement procedures and support for team activities as needed.


PROFILE:

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English;

  • In-depth understanding of European decision-making processes and funding programmes;

  • Basic administrative experience (ideally, including organisation of meetings or events);

  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite; knowledge of other tools (Zoom, mail merge, etc.) will be considered an advantage;

  • Ability to work well in a team and to carry out some tasks independently.


WHAT WE OFFER:

This contract is based on a Convention d’immersion professionnelle – CIP. Ideally, the intern should start their 6-month traineeship in January 2026.
