ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for an experienced professional to join our team in Brussels on a fulltime basis as our Advocacy and Communications Coordinator. Working closely with the Policy and Advocacy Manager, EU institutions and colleagues across the organisation, the Advocacy and Communications Coordinator will provide policy analysis and briefings on a range of European development policy areas. In particular, this role will support our advocacy, campaigning and comms efforts around the European budget process (Multiannual Financial Framework and EU annual budget), implementing our strategy with the EU institutions and Member States, working closely with government officials, NGOs and other decision-makers and opinion formers in Brussels.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent knowledge of EU development policy, as well as demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the European political scene and the EU institutions. They must be a great team player and self-starter with excellent communications skills and analytical ability.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Perform research and analyse on a range of EU development policies, supporting the definition and implementation of related advocacy strategies;
- Support the Brussels team’s advocacy on a range of issues towards the EU institutions, engaging with EU-wide networks and help developing/maintaining relationships in that field, including with EU officials, politicians, Members of the European Parliament, NGOs and think tanks;
- Update policy and advocacy materials and monitor parliamentary processes and stakeholders;
- Monitor and share with ONE staff updates on EU development policy, in particular in relation to the EU’s budget, as well as other important political debates in other EU countries, and engage with stakeholders and decision makers around key decision moments;
- Work internally across organisational teams to identify and leverage opportunities for policy change on key issues;
- Prepare and attend internal and external briefings and meetings;
- Represent ONE at meetings and conferences on relevant policy topics as needed;
- Prepare documents for a range of audiences including articles for ONE’s website and blog posts;
- Coordinate ONE social media channels in Brussels to maintain a strong online presence to help ONE achieve its advocacy, campaigns and communications objectives; that includes the production of (innovative) visual content and social media live coverage to maximize the visibility and public impact of ONE advocacy and campaign actions in Brussels;
- While sitting in the EU Policy & Advocacy team, facilitate collaboration with Campaigns and Comms teams, providing input from policy and advocacy perspective (e.g. support drafting speaking points for ONE Youth Ambassadors);
- Any other duties as required.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a development-related field or international law, or equivalent work experience;
- 2-3 years’ experience working in a related field with experience and knowledge of the European Institutions and the EU political scene desired;
- Good knowledge of social media channels and how they can support advocacy strategies;
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills with the ability to research a wide-range of topics using multiple sources;
- Ability to synthesize policy documents, identifying relevant key points and facts, and statistics that help explain complicated policy topics to broad audience in a concise way;
- An understanding of the links between policy, lobbying, campaigning and media work and of how policy change can be achieved through effective advocacy;
- A commitment to ONE’s mission and policy priorities;
- Ability to work as part of a global team and in a culturally diverse environment;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with competing priorities and workloads; generally very well-organised; proven ability to multi-task;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Fluent in spoken and written English, with other European languages highly desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is essential to the role. Proficiency in other EU Member States’ languages is a strong asset.
